If you are a new fiction author and have no idea what you’re doing, you’ve come to the right place. If you only need a bit of extra guidance with your manuscript, you’re also in the right place.
The Aspiring Author Coaching Program (or AAC) provides editing and guidance for new, unpublished authors of a fiction manuscript who don’t quite know what to do next. Services will vary from person to person, depending on their needs and where they are in their writing journey.
The spring 2024 opening has been filled! Keep an eye out for the next opportunity to apply.
The Aspiring Author Coaching Program provides:
- Detailed feedback on your manuscript
- Brainstorming assistance
- Tips and tricks on how to self-edit
- Formatting assistance
- Various materials to keep and reference throughout your writing career
- Unlimited email communication for questions or problems
- Significant discounts on multiple editing services for the manuscript enrolled in the program
- Flexible payment options
Requirements
The author must be a “new” author, meaning they may not have any previously published manuscripts and may not be currently represented by an agent. There are no age requirements, however. The author can be young or young at heart and still be eligible for the program.
Because of the amount of in-depth work the author and I do throughout their writing adventure, applications for the Aspiring Author Coaching Program are only open twice a year, and only one author per term will be accepted.
Once your manuscript has been chosen for the AAC program, you will decide which services you would like to receive. The program consists of a developmental edit and one or more of the following:
- Line editing
- Copy editing
- Proofreading
A second developmental edit would also be an option if it is needed.
So, How Much Does Aspiring Author Coaching Program Cost?
The AAC program is highly specialized for each individual author. Every author’s strengths and challenges are different, so each person’s program will be tailored to his or her needs and goals. Because of the specialization and individuality of the program, pricing will vary greatly from one author to the next. If the author chooses a package of services, the price will be 50% off of the regular prices for those services. If the author chooses only developmental editing, or if they choose to add a service at a later date, they will receive s 50% discount on the chosen dervices, plus a generous discount of 35% on the rest of the necessary editing services if they are added at s later date. For information about regular pricing for my editing services, please click here.
To give you an example, let’s say Lizzy Bennet has chosen to add all editing services to her AAC package for her 60,000-word manuscript. For developmental editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading, she will pay $847.50. That’s a 50% savings from the regular prices of those services. Plus, she’ll receive feedback, materials and goodies to keep for future books, unlimited emails to me for brainstorming and questions, and all of those other wonderful bonuses for the program.
Now, her sister, Mary, also wrote a 60,000-word book, but she only chose to do a developmental and line editing package, which cost her $540. Still a substantial savings, and she gets all of the AAC bonuses. But when she sees how well Lizzy’s book turned out, she wants to add on copy editing and proofreading as well. Since she didn’t choose a package, the price will be a little higher but still an excellent value. Mary Bennet’s total cost will end up being $942–a $793 savings from the regular editing prices.
The cost may still seem a bit daunting, but I will tailor a payment plan to fit your budget. My goal is to make your first entry into the editing and publishing world as easy as possible.
Keep an eye out for the next opportunity to apply for the program.
